Who is eligible? The American Galvanizers Association's Galvanize the Future: Edgar K. Schutz Scholarship essay contest is available to full- or part-time, undergraduate or graduate students of any age enrolled at an accredited 4-year college or university only in North America, during the 2008-2009 school year. High school students are not eligible to enter this contest. Qualifying majors include architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or other related field.

How long should entries be? Essays should be at least 1000 words, but should not exceed 2000 words.
What style is most appropriate? Judges will evaluate submissions based on relevance, accuracy, conciseness, and ingenuity. Please submit your essays in English.
How will essays be judged? Each essay will be read and ranked by reviewers at the AGA. Final awards will be determined by both the AGA's executive director and president.
Where do I start? The AGA website, www.galvanizeit.org, provides a wealth of no-cost resources on hot-dip galvanizing information, including access to the current publications, printed articles, technical information resource CDs, and a variety of industry links.
When is the entry deadline? March 31, 2009
How do I submit my entry? Submit your essay by downloading the Microsoft Word electronic entry form on the AGA website. Fill out the form by typing in the fields. Save the form to your desktop, then attach and email along with your essay to scholarship@galvanizeit.org. Essays must be in Word, Word Perfect, Rich Text Format, or Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Please ensure your entry form and essay are sent together. You will receive an email confirmation that your entry has been received. Please use our contact form for all questions. How many times can I enter the 2008-2009 contest? One entry will be accepted per student.
What about the winners? Winners will be personally notified and announced on the AGA website in April/May 2009. The scholarship will be paid directly to the winning student's educational institution. All submissions become the property of the American Galvanizers Association and will not be returned. Winning essays become the property of the American Galvanizers Association, which will, however, cooperate fully with the authors in the republication of essays.
