Member Newsletter -- American Galvanizer The AGA publishes a member newsletter that provides the latest information about Association activities and developments in the galvanizing industry. Each newsletter includes sections on technology, marketing activities, successful solutions, and innovations that are of interest to the galvanizing community.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Manual The EPA Manual is developed specifically to provide galvanizers with guidelines for managing environmental regulations in their facilities. It informs galvanizers of the content of environmental regulations and of compliance methods needed to meet these regulations.
Occupational Safety & Health Agency (OSHA) Manual The OSHA Manual makes it possible for galvanizers to establish a safe workplace and to comply with local and federal regulations. The OSHA Manual informs galvanizers of the content of OSHA safety regulations and of the compliance methods needed to meet these regulations.
Safety Video The AGA's Safety Video was developed specifically to review the galvanizing process and ways to prevent hazards that may lead to accidents within a galvanizing facility. Shot entirely in galvanizing plants, the video is inexpensive insurance and a terrific tool for galvanizers to train employees to ensuriea safe work environment for the ultimate elimination of lost-time accidents. The video is available in English and Spanish.
Process Video This video series contains six distinct modules to be used by AGA members to train employees. The five modules (Inspection, Material Handling, Surface Preparation, Galvanizing and The Kettle, and Post-Galvanizing Treatments) along with the Introduction Video are tools with excellent detail that every galvanizer should have to improve production and demonstrate a commitment to employee development. The video is available in English and Spanish.
Quality Assurance Manual This manual provides galvanizers with the guidelines for implementing quality control in their facilities. The basis for this manual is the International Standard ISO 9002, Quality Systems-Model for Quality Assurance in Production and Installation. It contains guidelines for obtaining ISO 9002 certification and for establishing a system that will produce quality products from your facility.
Storm Water Pollution Prevention Manual All galvanizers must have a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), regardless of the type of storm water permit for which they apply. This manual provides the galvanizer with the guidelines for developing a SWPPP that will satisfy the requirements of the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permitting authority.
Galvanizing Guidelines Focused on topics such as chain & wire standards, welding on HDG steel, safety latches, air monitoring sampling protocol, etc., the Guidelines are not for distribution to fabricators or specifiers. The Guidelines are very process specific and represent research designed to substantiate some of your processing practices to EPA and/or OSHA.
Galvanizing Notes Addressing such topics as touchup & repair, skimmings & dross, painting HDG steel, pickling iron & steel, the Notes are to assist the galvanizer with process improvement. The language is such that they may be used to educate fabricators and/or specifiers, if necessary.
Health, Safety & Environmental Notes Critical to operation, the H,S & E Notes specifically review Form R calculations, kettle height requirements, air monitoring summary data, and other fundamental issues.
Tech Notes Distributed to all member galvanizers 6 times each year, the Tech Notes are abstracts of current articles and research pertinent to the HDG industry. Tech Notes are divided into three major categories: process, applications, and environmental. Members can request copies of any or all of the articles and research identified in the Tech Notes.
Designing with Hot-Dip Galvanizing CD ROM (Fabricator version) Containing virtually everything a fabricator needs to know about steel and steel fabrications intended to be hot-dip galvanized, the CD is interactive, searchable by key word, and contains animation and pictures to more easily understand the galvanizing process and fabrication requirements.
Designing with Hot-Dip Galvanizing CD ROM (Specifier version) Containing virtually everything an engineer or specifier needs to know about the issues surrounding the design of steel intended to be hot-dip galvanized, the CD is interactive, searchable by key word, and contains animation and pictures to more easily understand design requirements. It is more in-depth with respect to issues such as faying surfaces, bolt tensioning, corrosion & corrosion rates, competitive materials, and life-cycle performance costing. (To be released in 2003)
Technical Resource CD ROM This invaluable resource contains a copy of every AGA publication in PDF format for easy review and printing. This is an excellent tool for distribution at trade shows or when you make personal visits to architects and engineers.
Publications The AGA maintains an inventory of publications and performance reports second to none. Publication topics range from design, inspection, painting over HDG steel, and detailing, to reinforcing steel, specifications, fasteners, welding, touchup & repair, and wet storage stain. The performance reports provide detail about the superior performance of HDG steel in myriad environments and industries.
SPECIAL ASSISTANCE TO MEMBERS...
Research Library Index The technical library houses extensive information on the latest research on plant operations, safety-related issues, environmental regulations, and all other plant-related issues. Included are ILZRO reports, other government and private sector reports, surveys relating to galvanizing issues, federal and EPA regulation updates, as well as a full range of documentation covering process, procedure and applications over a more than 65-year span.
Image Library The AGA media library contains thousands of visual images, including slides, and black-and-white and color photographs depicting every aspect of the hot-dip galvanizing industry. Much of the image library is in digital format. All media information is available for member use. Contributions to the collection are strongly encouraged.
Trade Show Booths The Association owns three trade show exhibit booths. The booths include one free-standing 10'x 8' booth designed to fit in a standard full-size exhibit floor, and two table-top booths designed to fit on a standard 6' exhibit table. The exhibits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The rental charge is $65 for a free-standing booth and $45 for either table-top booth. Shipping charges are additional and any incurred damage are subject to extra fees. The AGA also has laminated photos available for use at trade shows at no charge; however, any incurred damages are subject to additional charges.
OSHA Assistance The AGA technical department, while not providing legal assistance, can write letters or talk to inspectors to inform them of what is accepted practice in the industry. The AGA can assist you in preparing a challenge to OSHA citations.
Committee Representation The AGA is actively involved on committees within the following professional organizations: ASTM, NACE, AASHTO, and ILZRO. These committees write standard specifications, develop position papers and conduct research in the field of galvanizing in order to promote this corrosion prevention method. AGA staff members represent the Association on the committees.
Research Projects For any industry to survive and grow, research and development is a necessity. That is why the AGA supports research on subjects of interest to the galvanizing industry. Many of the research projects are funded through our participation in ILZRO. Our funds are combined with other organizations to allow large research projects to be undertaken. The AGA participates in determining which projects should be reviewed and which projects should be funded. Additional research projects have the protocol developed by the AGA staff, are managed by the technical services committee, and contracted to necessary testing companies.
World Wide Web The AGA offers to create and service member's home pages, giving the whole world access to information about their specific business. With the initiation of a home page, members also will receive an e-mail account, so those potential customers can communicate with them. This also enables members to receive up-to-the-minute information regarding all AGA happenings. Member's link to the AGA's homepage will allow customers to automatically access information on the galvanizing industry the AGA provides. Now being in the 21st century, members cannot afford to pass this offer up!

Specifications Assistance Occasionally, galvanizers are confronted by a specification they have never seen before. The AGA staff has the expertise and experience to provide fast, comprehensive assistance. Additionally, the complexity of specifications used on an everyday basis often demands interpretation expertise provided by the AGA staff.

Publications The AGA produces and maintains a wide variety of excellent publications on topics in the field of galvanizing. Over 40 publications are available on this web site and can be downloaded free of charge. If desired, single copies of color printed publications are provided and mailed at no charge to North American specifiers. Publications are regularly reviewed and updated to keep the information fresh and at the forefront of galvanizing technology.

Galvanizing Insights Galvanizing Insights is the email publication of the American Galvanizers Association. Published quarterly, Galvanizing Insights, is designed to help specifiers, engineers, architects, fabricators, and end-users better understand, specify, and utilize hot-dip galvanized steel.

GalvanizeIt! Seminars GalvanizeIt! is an educational seminar designed for engineers, architects and other specifiers. The goal is to increase awareness of the after-fabrication hot-dip galvanizing industry. The seminars, held in major North American cities, have proven to be an effective means of providing greater understanding of the galvanizing process, as well as encouraging increased specification of galvanized coatings. AGA staff and/or members present this seminar to these specifiers.
Consulting The issues of corrosion prevention, hot-dip galvanized steel, competitive processes, performance in a variety of environments and industries, and specifications are complex. They often require professional assistance. The staff of the American Galvanizers Association provides assistance in understanding those issues.
